At Bio-Rad, we publish a monthly Cultural Calendar of events that are commonly celebrated in the United States and in other countries in which we operate. Our goal is to feature a variety of events that help bring cultural awareness to various groups' histories, traditions, and accomplishments while also highlighting events important to us both as a company and a community.
Labor Day: September 1
Labor Day is celebrated in the United States and Canada to honor the contributions of the working class and promote their rights. It also pays tribute to the sacrifices of workers in securing economic and social rights. To learn more, click here.
Mawlid an-Nabi: September 4
Mawlid al-Nabi, Arabic for the “birthday of the prophet”, marks the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad's birth with feasts, festivals, street parades, chants and decorations in streets, mosques and homes. Learn more here.
Respect for the Aged Day: September 15
Respect for the Aged Day (敬老の日, Keirō no Hi) is a public holiday in Japan celebrated annually to honor elderly citizens. On this day, people honor elders by visiting them and offering respect. Some volunteer to serve free lunches to seniors, and children and teens perform in keirokai (celebration events for elders) for entertainment.

Malaysia Day: September 16
Malaysia Day is a public holiday held on September 16 every year nationally since 2010 to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation on that date in 1963. Learn more about Malaysia Day here.
Mexican Independence Day: September 16
Also known as 'Día de la Independencia' or 'Grito de Dolores', Mexican Independence Day marks the anniversary of the Mexican War of Independence against Spain on September 16, 1810. To learn more, click here.
World Alzheimer's Day: September 21

Navratri: Sept. 22 - Oct. 2
Navratri means "nine nights" beginning on the new moon and ending on Dussehra. The holiday is dedicated to the goddess Durga who had nine incarnations and has the power of good to destroy. To learn more about Navratri, click here.
Rosh Hashanah: September 23
Meaning literally "Head of the Year", this day marks the first and second day of the Jewish New Year and the anniversary of the creation of the world. It ends 10 days later with Yom Kippur. It is celebrated with prayers and religious services. To learn more, click here.
St. Wenceslas Day: September 28
St. Wenceslas Day is the feast day of St. Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia in the Czech Republic, and this holiday commemorates his death in 935. To learn more about the history of St. Wenceslas Day, click here.
National Day of Truth & Reconciliation: September 30
The National Day of Truth and Reconciliation honors the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities, and the ongoing impacts of residential schools.
