At the Clinical Diagnostics Group (a division of Bio-Rad), we are undergoing a rapid evolution, which includes building an R&D team focused on Molecular Diagnostics, leveraging our next-generation droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) platforms.

Bio-Rad has established the market lead in digital PCR and now we’re expanding into Molecular Diagnostics for our clinical laboratory customers. We believe our partition technology (creating hundreds of thousands of droplets) will open up new, innovative avenues in the clinical diagnostics markets. To support this evolution, we are looking for a talented Bioinformatician to be a member of the R&D Mol Dx leadership team for the Clinical Diagnostics Group’s efforts to expand into Reproductive Health, Infectious Diseases and Human Genetics.

What We Are Looking For:

An exceptional candidate passionate about improving healthcare, with a significant track record of developing bioinformatics pipelines for clinical applications. The successful candidate will set the technical strategies for data analysis, will thrive in a matrixed environment (Assay Development, Engineering, Regulatory, Product and Business teams) and will demonstrate experience interacting with experts in the Reproductive Health field (NIPT, Carrier Screening, Pre-eclampsia, Endometriosis), using their broad understanding of ddPCR algorithm development, clinical diagnostics, biostatistical analysis (non-clinical) and molecular biology method development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and technical leadership to the growing assay development and bioinformatics teams.
  • Accountable for data analysis and algorithm development for all stages of products in development (from early concept to product launch).
  • Define strategy for design, optimization, and implementation of secondary analysis algorithms and other key data analysis algorithms and tools to support the Reproductive Health product roadmap.
  • Provide input for algorithm development strategy to enable laboratory-developed tests as well as regulated products.
  • Lead efforts to establish, implement and perform continuous improvement on bioinformatics operating procedures for Bio-Rad's Molecular Diagnostic program.
  • Partner closely with other Bioinformatics and Software teams in the Digital Biology and Clinical Diagnostics Groups at Bio-Rad.
  • Identify and mentor a team of Bioinformatics data scientists and provide staff with coaching, opportunities to develop skills, provide on-going constructive and timely feedback on performance and progress towards goals and expectations.
  • Deliver high impact presentations communicating bioinformatics strategy and progress to internal and external audiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or other related quantitative discipline with 8 years of relevant experience including: 1+ years of experience in a supervisory role particularly interdisciplinary (bioinformatics) teams; or, Masters with 6 years of experience or PhD with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in genetic analysis (experience in NIPT or cell-free DNA applications is preferred), bioinformatics and computational programming.
  • Knowledge and experience of common bioinformatics databases, resources and tools.
  • Proven track record of developing products that combine genomics, digital PCR or next generation sequencing, molecular biology, statistics, and bioinformatics algorithms.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Python (Flask, FastAPI, Pytest, SqlAlchemy), SQL and at least one of the following: R (RStudio, R Markdown), Go, JavaScript (D3.js, jQuery), Java, C++.
  • Strong R, SAS, or Matlab programming skill (including data graphing skill) is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, logical and analytical thinking, ability to multitask, work independently and on a team, and the ability to learn, troubleshoot, and problem solve are essential.
