Director, Corporate Business Development

The Director of Corporate Business Development will be a leader who will work collaboratively with a variety of company functions including R&D, Business Development, Commercial, Legal, and Finance as well as external resources, to identify and evaluate external opportunities, and to negotiate and close high value transactions to achieve strategic priorities. We are seeking an individual with a strong deal sheet and track record of completing transactions in the life science and clinical diagnostics industry. This person must have experience leading a deal team and working with Executive management to implement external growth strategies. Transactions will take the form of licenses, acquisitions, strategic collaborations, partnerships, and joint ventures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct and be responsible for day-to-day management of deals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with team members (Business GMs, Country GMs, Product Management, Research & Development, Finance, Legal and others as needed) in support of assessing and closing new business opportunities.
  • Effectively manage the transaction process (approach, opportunity assessment, due diligence, valuation, deal negotiations, deal structuring, internal governance processes, closing process and integration planning for key initiatives.
  • Build and establish long-term relationships with executives at life science and clinical diagnostic manufacturers, investment bankers, and venture capitalists.
  • Work with Finance to create forecasting and deal evaluation models and with Legal to draft and negotiate contracts for transactions.
  • Responsible for developing the business case and presenting it to senior management.
  • Drive all communications and negotiations with potential partner.
  • Stays abreast of emerging healthcare & pharmaceutical industry trends and assess their potential impact on business strategies.
  • Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with biopharma companies, venture capitalists, investment bankers, and industry executives.
  • Work with internal product development teams to coordinate with external partners.

Qualifications

  • MBA or PhD Life Sciences or MD. A combination of relevant education and applicable job experience may be considered. Bachelor’s degree in science or business or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience within Business Development or investment banking with a focus on in-licensing or acquisition of therapeutics/companies in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Substantial and varied transaction and negotiation experience.
  • Possesses robust experience identifying, negotiating and closing transactions.
  • Proven ability to lead in a complex matrix environment with and without direct authority.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to get to the right level of granularity to balance speed of execution and facilitate optimal decision-making by executive management.
  • Excellent financial analysis and research skills and ability to translate analyses into sound strategic recommendations.
  • Skilled at negotiating with business partners or management and influencing senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization, project management, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work on extremely complex problems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Company products, markets and technology.
