The Manager for Global Automation and Process Improvement is responsible to develop, manage and drive the automation and process improvement activities for global manufacturing. The manager will also have responsibility for monitoring, standardize and drive process improvement for global manufacturing. The person will  design, track, monitor, analyze, improve, control and report key performance indicators for Global manufacturing in order to drive harmonization across the organization, improve efficiency and move towards operational excellence. 

Responsibilities

Drive Global Automation with team of 2 to 3 Sr. Engineers and 3 to 5 Global Distribution Engineers.

Develop, manage and drive the automation and process improvement activities for global manufacturing.

Has primary responsibility for developing a global automation architecture and establishing automation equipment standards that will ensure future capability to connect automated processes to global business systems.  This includes standards for HMI, SCADA systems and PLCs, as well as standards for safety, connectivity and performance monitoring. 

 

Screen, bench and insource new state of the art technologies (e.g Digitalization) to provide competitive advantage for Bio-Rad and drive operational excellence.

 

The manager will lead a team of 3-5 globally distributed engineers and team members to implement the automation standards across global manufacturing and drive a global automation roadmap. 

 

The automation team will also develop standardized practices for identification of automation opportunities, specification of user requirements, review and approval of automation designs and commissioning of new equipment in manufacturing.

 

Responsible for the deployment of the Lean/Continuous Improvement program across the global supply chain. They will collaborate with and coach plant and division-level leadership to drive Lean culture through the business, with a focus on problem-solving and demonstration of company core values.  This role will make an immediate impact by…

  • Driving a major cultural shift within the business through deployment of their Lean business system
  • Coaching and mentoring plant-level leaders on the Lean program
  • Being a catalyst for change where Lean transformation progress is stalled, or in newly acquired facilities needing a jumpstart on their continuous improvement journey.

Supports the global manufacturing in coordinating the activities with our various stakeholders and business partners.

  • Developing and applying Lean tools and methodologies to achieve financial objectives and improvements  to KPIs
  • Exemplifying the culture of Continuous Improvement when dealing with stakeholders at all levels
  • Facilitating improvements based on strategic objectives and stakeholder expectations
  • Developing tactical action items from corporate strategic vision
  • Coaching a team-oriented problem-solving approach to analyze current conditions, diagnose problems, and improvements
  • Analyzing business metrics and trends to develop improvement strategies and a future vision for the business
  • Training teammates, peers, and leaders on Lean methods in both formalized training sessions and stop-and-teach at Gemba
  • Leading and coaching Kaizen events
  • Driving Lean transformation in challenging locations, manufacturing sites or business segments where rollout has stalled or needs a catalyst for change; assisting with Lean rollout in newly acquired businesses as applicable
  • Identifying, coaching, and mentoring future Lean talent to support professional advancement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field; advanced degree preferred
  • Master Black Belt, related Lean Six Sigma certification, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Continuous Improvement, Operations, and General Management
  • Experience with Lean transformation and rollout across multiple types of businesses or industries
  • Multisite experience preferred with focus on manufacturing operations
  • Proven successful application of Lean tools: 80/20, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, Standard Work, FMEA,
  • Problem Solving, Kanban, Visual Daily Management, Policy Deployment
  • Strong business and financial acumen, engaging and dynamic leadership skills, and bias for action
  • Ability to engage with all levels of the organization, including training of peers as well as executives
  • Team player that is always willing to coach
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • General computer skills and advanced MS Office Suite experience
