Bio-Rad is seeking a Manufacturing Scientist I.The successful candidate will provide product and process support for manufacturing, supply chain and quality control department.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying root causes of product failures and determining batch specific rework if necessary, revise Material Specs, Production and Quality Control Procedures as indicated by investigations.
  • Evaluate processes to insure reliability.
  • Design and perform training session for other department on recent developments.
  • Perform raw material and finished product validation/qualification studies and generate reports summarizing work and recommendations.
  • Create new materials in SAP.
  • Design and perform experiments for the above purposes, and communicate results to other departments.
  • Complete and initiate Deviation and Non-conformance (QN) Reports.
  • Perform instrument validation and maintenance as needed. Participate in the new product introduction and Scale up.
  • Implement Management of Change work process to review and control changes required to drive improvement.
  • Collaborate with other department leaders to make process changes and ensure that safety, environmental and OSHA regulations are being met and followed.
  • Ensure 5S standards are adhered to every day.
  • Drive improvements in value stream performance by documenting the current state developing the future state and driving steps to achieve the future state.  Includes data collection and reporting of KPI that drive business efficiency. 

Qualifications

  • BS or MS Degree. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines and/or 4+ years’ of experience for MS. in chemical processing field with emphasis on polymer chemistry.
  • Strong background in scientific principles with ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues.
  • High level ability to design efficient and meaningful experiments, generate reproducible data, analyze data, draw valid conclusions, and make realistic recommendations.
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills, reliable decision making, attention to detail, and multi-tasking are essential to success in this position.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to write clear comprehensive reports and communicate effectively in a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to learn continuously new information and technical procedures are highly desired.
  • Experience, preferably in product support, laboratory synthesis, Polymer chemistry, development, or scale-up.
  • Familiarity with various analytical instruments and techniques i.e. HPLC, FPLC, IR. FTIR & GC are preferred.
  • Prior experience in assay development and experimental design is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma, validation requirements and GMP principles is desired.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and make intellectual contributions to multiple projects. 
  • Exhibits good judgment within generally defined practices and policies. 
  • Working knowledge of job-related development techniques, computer skills, including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, as well as fluency in computer techniques and software, hardware or other tools for experimentation and analysis; attention to detail. 
  • Good data analysis, communication and presentation skills. 
  • Knowledge of specific area of science/product assigned to e.g., biochemistry, chemistry, biology, assay development, etc.
