The Global Supply Chain’s Manufacturing team focuses on building high quality products for our customers in support of testing in clinical diagnostic labs and life sciences research. The Manufacturing teams are located in the Americas, Europe, and Singapore and produce regulated and non-regulated products that range from reagent kits to small and large instruments, plastics, and consumables. They also collaborate and work seamlessly with our supply chain to meet, and exceed, our customers’ expectations.

 

Bio-Rad is looking for a Senior Scientist with extensive experience with lab automation with expertise in liquid handling of reagents to support manufacturing for the Manufacturing Science and Technology Team.  The individual will execute cross-functional projects related to development and continuous improvement for our product lines with a focus on Molecular Biology Reagents, traditional, quantitative and droplet digital PCR reagents.

 

How You’ll Make An Impact:   

 

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, optimize, transfer and troubleshoot lab automation (including liquid handling automation) workflows to support existing and new product development.
  • Collaborate with R&D and operations functions to ensure on-time, robust, and cost-effective transfer of new products into manufacturing.
  • Contribute studies and/or activities necessary for process optimization and continuous improvement to assure robust and cost-effective manufacturing processes.
  • Represent Manufacturing Operations on new product development and manufacturing transfer teams. Collaborate with key stakeholders from R&D to operations functions to ensure projects are managed on-time, robust, and cost-effective transfer of new products into manufacturing.
  • Perform troubleshooting relating to product quality and manufacturing process issues.
  • Lead & establish project plans to ensure deliverables are completed to customer’s expectations, using project management tools (e.g., Project Action Plan, Risk Analysis, etc.)
  • Participate in the verification and validation of new process improvements.
  • Requires strong problem-solving skills, technical proficiency, collaboration with key stake holders and ability to work independently.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for both manufacturing and QC in a timely manner.  Participate in root-cause analysis and FMEA, interface and collaborate with various development functions to solve a wide range of difficult scientific and operational problems.
  • Author, update or review validation test plans & data summary, production and QC procedures.  Setup change control/infrastructure.  Train manufacturing personnel.
  • Present ongoing scientific/technical work at internal/departmental seminars and trainings.

 

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Scientific Field, in biologic and/or chemistry disciplines with minimum of 10+ years' industry experience is required in related industry.
  • Master's Degree and/or Doctorate Degree in scientific field highly desirable.  
  • Formal training should be biochemistry, molecular Biology, engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive in-depth experience programming and implementing Lab Automation including extensive Liquid Handling expertise on platforms such as Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Hydra, etc.
  • Experience in gathering or creating user requirements and translation into systems requirement and technical specifications.
  • Experience in molecular biology reagent manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Experience in project management across functional teams
  • Requires strong problem-solving skills, technical proficiency, collaboration with key stake holders and ability to work independently.
  • Able to apply scientific training to solve manufacturing and operational issues.
  • Ability to work effectively and build relationships through inter-organization collaborations.
  • Great organization and communication skills, adept at multi-tasking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing of scientific and technical reports and presentation.
  • Prefer experience in regulated QMS.
  • Prefer experience in Lean Six Sigma, DOE, and statistical analysis.
  • Prefer experience with ERP system – SAP preferred.

 

Hiring Bonus:  This role offers a $8,000 hiring bonus for a limited time only. Hiring Bonus is offered for direct hire roles only and is applicable to specific positions as labeled. Agency hires and internal transfers are not eligible. Recipients must be employed at the time of payout. Payout is after 30 days of employment with Bio-Rad. There is a 12-month repayment clause.
