Bio-Rad is seeking an experienced individual to join our innovative multidisciplinary engineering team to develop next next generation Single-Cell Systems.  In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams developing consumables and system components across a wide array of applications.  This position will be based at either our Ann Arbor, MI R&D Campus or our Pleasanton, CA R&D Center.  You will engage in all phases of new product development, including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, and transfer to manufacturing. The candidate should have proven success in understanding complex systems, efficiently designing, and executing experiments, performing data analysis, and communicating results.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates new consumable and system component development for manufacturing of single-cell analysis and microfluidics applications.
  • Applies system engineering principles to develop cost-effective, reliable, high-quality systems that satisfy customer needs and drive business strategies.
  • Translates customer and business strategies into engineering design concepts and drives efficient product development with modern design control processes.
  • Identifies robust system architectures that are scalable, manufacturable, and serviceable.
  • Develops sub-systems for micro-fluidic processing and imaging based on fundamental physics, physical models, and related design approaches.
  • Ensures compliance with quality and regulatory requirements by applying design control processes such as risk management, configuration management, requirements management and verification testing.
  • Communicates results effectively, guiding the team through data and your observations on critical design decisions.
  • Coordinates with cross-functional project teams to ensure timelines are met and assists the team to balance costs, timeline, and performance.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering or equivilant with an emphasis on microfluidics. PhD desirable
  • 7+ years’ experience in microfluidic device development for analytical or diagnostics applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific knowledge of current commonly used microfluidic device manufacturing processes and techniques, as well as familiarity with related manufacturing equipment vendors.
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability and working closely with contract manufacturers and vendors to ensure design intent is realized
  • Proficient in Mechanical Design using a CAD system. SolidWorks® a plus.
  • Experience with microscopy, fluorescence imaging, high-speed imaging, and single-cell analysis.
  • Working knowledge applying general-purpose simulation software to model and evaluate microfluidic simulation. COMSOL Multiphysics® software a plus.
  • Willingness to contribute to design and test other systems outside of microfluidics.
  • Ability to set priorities and execute with attention to detail, without getting lost in them.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Strong design of experiments (DOE), data analysis and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work both as an individual contributor and as a key member of the team.
