The Production Technician II, Buffers is responsible for supporting multiple Chemistry groups with the formulation and testing of buffer and bulk solutions in compliance with established GMP procedures and ensuring products are of consistent high quality.  

Responsibilities

  • Formulates buffer and bulk solutions to support multiple Chemistry groups according to the production schedule. 
  • Chemicals must be accurately weighed with an analytical balance with a (+/- 0.2% tolerance). 
  • Cross-trained to perform dispensing of reagents.
  • Follows current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and standard operating procedures.
  • Documents production by completing forms, reports, logs, and records of equipment and batches.
  • Performs Quality Control testing such as pH, conductivity, and specific gravity.  
  • Works with planning department for scheduling/prioritization of Process Orders.
  • Operation, calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab equipment such as magnetic stirrers, overhead stirrers, pH meter, conductivity meter, peristaltic pumps, manual and semi-automatic pipettes.
  • Performs calculations for determining concentrations, dilutions, and process yields.
  • Performs aseptic filtering and dispensing procedures.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment following 5S.
  • Performs moderately complex lab experiments.
  • Explore and identifies creative solutions to improve current production processes. 
  • Recommends and facilitates changes to written departmental procedures and work instructions
  • Provides training to new employees and/or new processes. 
  • Perform ERP (SAP) system transactions to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Provides weekly and monthly reports for manufacturing processes as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Associates degree preferred.
  • College level courses and/or specialized training in Biotechnology, aseptic technique, buffer preparation, or GMP preferred.
  • 3-5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability weigh small/large quantity of materials, as well handle large carboy/containers (up to 200L).  
  • Working knowledge of quality systems, cGMP, ISO:13485, SOPs preferred.
  • Ability to operate lab/test equipment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out semi complex written or oral instructions.
  • Strong math, problem solving and computer skills.
  • Transaction in SAP a plus.
  • Experience in liquid handling techniques such as pipettes and automated dispensing instruments such as M&O Perry, Tecan, Hamilton, and Bechman Instruments preferred.
  • Utilize intermediate technical skills to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize work, multi-task, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Team player/ flexible/ attentive to detail and quality minded.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, with overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to train others.
