At the Clinical Diagnostics Group (a division of Bio-Rad), we are undergoing a rapid evolution, which includes building an R&D team focused on molecular diagnostics, leveraging droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), which uses microfluidic chips to generate nanoliter-sized droplets as reaction vessels to power this extremely precise digital nucleic acid measurement method. Bio-Rad has established the market lead in digital PCR and now we’re expanding into molecular diagnostics for our clinical laboratory customers. We believe our partition technology will open new avenues in the clinical diagnostics markets. To support this evolution, we are looking for a talented Engineering Project Manager within Global Systems Engineering to be a member of the R&D team for the Clinical Diagnostics Group’s efforts to expand into Reproductive Health, Infectious Diseases and Human Genetics.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for engineering project management of complex systems from Feasibility/Planning through Commercialization.
  • Leverages well developed interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive working relationships with functional groups throughout the organization.
  • Uses strong project and organizational knowledge, leadership and active facilitation to enable effective team meetings and high-performance teams.
  • Responsible for creating and executing to project timelines to achieve business goals.
  • Proactively manages project risk and critical path items and effectively removes roadblocks.
  • Identifies interdependencies and strategic ways to facilitate project success.
  • Ensures, accuracy and high quality of project documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field such as engineering, microbiology, biochemistry, etc. highly desired.
  • 10+ years project management, product development or equivalent combination.
  • Experience managing instrument or hardware development projects is required.
  • Proactive leader with strong sense of accountability.
  • Able to manage multiple projects of simple to moderate complexity at the same time.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through ambiguous situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to articulate complex information throughout organization.
  • Effective interpersonal, negotiation and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills. Able to effectively facilitate conflict resolution.
  • Able to think creatively in leading project teams through obstacles and finding the best path forward.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel (5-10%; domestic and international).
  • Knowledge of industry practices and company policies and procedures.
  • Analytical skills including data collection and synthesis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Visio, and Project software.
  • Proficient in standard project management tools (e.g., work breakdown structures, Gantt charts, critical path analysis) to document and communicate project plans.

Nice to Have:

  • Project management training and certification (e.g. PMP, Scrum Master) is a plus.
  • Experience working in regulated industry (e.g. in vitro-diagnostics, medical device or pharmaceutical) is a strong plus.
  • Experience applying Agile methodologies for hardware development is a plus.
