Bio-Rad’s Digital Biology Group is a multidisciplinary team focused on developing innovative products using our core partitioning technology. Our droplet- and microwell-based systems have enabled scientists around the world to make impactful discoveries in the life sciences and healthcare. Our mission is to continue creating and providing new tools to scientists that will facilitate more discoveries and advances in research.

 

We are seeking an outstanding Sr. Scientist to join the Advanced Technology team, working on single-cell NGS applications. This is a cross-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of groups including Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computational Biology, Microfluidics and System Engineering to drive early R&D concepts into customer-facing products.

 

Candidates should have a broad understanding of next generation sequencing, its applications, and have a proven track-record in the development of novel molecular biology protocols to solve complex biological problems. Candidate must be passionate about finding innovative solutions to problems by brainstorming, troubleshooting, and executing wet-lab experiments.

 

Beyond technical qualifications, the candidate must be a self-starter, highly goal-oriented, excel at managing multiple priorities, collaborative, and succeed in communicating with all levels within the organization. Responsibilities

  • Develop novel assays using molecular biology techniques for applications in single cell profiling.
  • Develop and establish robust, customer-facing workflows that meet product requirements.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the interplay between chemistry, molecular biology, and microfluidics to identify the root cause of product deviations, troubleshoot them, and identify robust solutions.
  • Work closely with computational biologists to interpret data generated by novel and optimized assay schemes.
  • Lead the design, plan, and development of product specifications and quality metrics to deliver optimum product performance.
  • Work within multi-disciplinary teams at all stages of product development: Execute experiments, perform in-depth analysis and report data through documentation and presentation.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar fields with a minimum of 1+ years postdoctoral or industry experience, particularly with exposure to next generation DNA sequencing workflows.
  • Track record of strong problem-solving skills through experimental design, execution and analysis of experiments on aggressive schedules in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, logical and analytical thinking, ability to multitask, work independently and on a team.
  • Experience in creating and optimizing variety of NGS sample preparation workflows and analysis is desired.
  • Experience with cell culture and the handling of mammalian primary cells, cell lines, and tissues.
  • Experience with Flow cytometry, including sorting.
  • Experience in monoclonal antibody development, including antibody functional testing, expression, and purification.
  • Experience in operating liquid handling robots or other lab automation for high-throughput assays.
