As part of the Global Commodity Management Group, Bio-Rad Laboratories is seeking a Strategic Procurement Specialist who will assume a prominent role for developing and implementing sourcing strategies for blood, biologics and chemicals. The successful candidate will collaborate with Global Commodity Management in developing commodity strategies based on existing and future spend, demand, supply challenges, and marketplace conditions, ensuring alignment with the business and project objectives. The role will lead and/or participate on cross-functional teams to ensure Bio-Rad is leveraging spend, driving best value and improving overall supplier performance.  This role reports to the Global Commodity Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership of assigned commodities.
  • Lead sourcing activities, supplier selection and negotiations efforts.
  • Pro-actively build positive strategic relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Supply Assurance, Demand Planning and Manufacturing teams to optimize inventory levels and material flow while minimizing stock-out risks.
  • Continually optimize supply chain with respect to price, inventory, supply continuity, and terms and conditions.
  • Develop and lead negotiation strategy and execution while ensuring alignment with key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with external suppliers to proactively identify opportunities for implementation of cost optimization, lead time reductions, quality enhancements, and overall improved service levels.
  • Identify and qualify potential suppliers, evaluate and communicate performance, manage and develop long-term partnerships with suppliers to enhance overall capabilities and result in more efficient product development and a more agile supply chain.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with leadership of key suppliers that foster communication on forward looking strategies, long range planning and partnerships.
  • Review supplier onboarding and provide insight and guidance to team during process.
  • Assists in the development and implements commodity strategy creation, while ensuring company alignment and execution
  • The strategy will include market analysis, supply chain risk assessment, source selection, and contract negotiation.
  • Evaluate market conditions in order to alleviate and mitigate supplier and raw material risks.
  • Identify and execute process improvement projects to increase the operating efficiencies.
  • Support procurement compliance and adherence of all business and regulatory guidelines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field desired, MBA or Masters preferred.
  • 6+ years’ experience in Procurement with at least 2 years in Supply Assurance Buying and 2 years in Demand Buying, Materials Management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Coursework towards CPM and/or CPIM certification is desired.
  • Knowledge of commodity/category management, purchasing contracts and practices desired.
  • Ability to work independently and meet hard deadlines and product volatility, demonstrate effective teamwork skills, and ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Must possess highly developed negotiation, contract creation, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills with proven results.
  • Experience identifying, evaluating and developing suppliers.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • 20-25% travel required, including international travel (Europe primarily).
