As part of the Global Commodity Management Group, Bio-Rad Laboratories is seeking a Strategic Procurement Specialist who will assume a lead role for developing and implementing sourcing strategies for packaging, labels and printed materials in the Americas and APAC. This may include various types of corrugated and cold chain packaging, various labels and printed materials. The successful candidate will collaborate with Global Commodity Management in developing commodity strategies based on existing and future spend, demand, supply challenges, and marketplace conditions, ensuring alignment with the business and project objectives. The role will lead and/or participate on cross-functional teams to ensure Bio-Rad is leveraging spend, driving best value and improving overall supplier performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement global procurement and sourcing strategies for packaging commodities to result in the use of highest value suppliers while optimizing Total Cost of Ownership (TCoO).
  • The strategy will include market analysis, supply chain risk assessment, source selection, and contract negotiation.
  • Lead sourcing activities for plastics and resin commodity and direct corresponding RFP activity
  • Identify and qualify potential suppliers, evaluate and communicate performance, manage and develop long-term partnerships with suppliers to enhance overall capabilities and result in more efficient product development and a more agile supply chain
  • Work closely with external suppliers and internal cross functional teams to proactively identify opportunities for implementation of cost savings, lead time reductions, quality enhancements, and overall improved service levels
  • Review industry leading commodity cost indicators and publications to drive competitive costing and mitigate cost associated risk
  • Collaborate with Engineering and supplier quality to manage product life cycle issues to ensure minimal impact from obsolescence or change
  • Collaborate with Supply Assurance, Demand Planning and Manufacturing teams to optimize inventory levels and material flow while minimizing stock-out risks
  • Identify and execute process improvement projects to increase the operating efficiencies.
  • Support procurement compliance and adherence of all business and regulatory guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and meet hard deadlines and product volatility, demonstrate effective teamwork skills, and ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Procurement or Supply Chain Management, or related discipline.
  • MBA preferred.
  • 6+ years’ experience in Procurement with at least 2 years in Supply Assurance Buying and 2 years in Demand Buying, Materials Management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience sourcing vendors through a RFP process and negotiating vendor contracts.
  • Act as a leader and project manager for various supply chain initiatives, RFP's and supply optimization projects.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Coursework towards CPM and/or CPIM certification is preferred.
  • Full knowledge and application of the principles and theories of procurement and supply chain.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Strong oral and written communication, confident negotiator, and strong multitasking and organizational skills.
  • This position requires 25% international and domestic travel.
