At Bio-Rad, we publish a monthly Cultural Calendar of events that are commonly celebrated in the United States and in other countries in which we operate. Our goal is to feature a variety of events that help bring cultural awareness to various groups' histories, traditions, and accomplishments while also highlighting events important to us both as a company and a community.

Canada Day: July 1

Canada Day is a vibrant and joyous occasion where Canadians across the nation come together to honor their country's rich history, culture, and enduring spirit. From dazzling fireworks lighting up the night sky to lively parades showcasing community pride, the day is filled with festivities that reflect the warmth and inclusivity synonymous with Canada. Independence Day: July 4

The Fourth of July, a federal holiday in the United States, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. While this isn't the day that independence was declared, July 4th was the day when the Continental Congress approved the final wording of the Declaration of Independence. As a result, this is the day we celebrate the birth of the United States of America. To learn more, click here. 

Ashura: July 6

Ashura is a significant Islamic observance that commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, in the Battle of Karbala. Hussein is among the most honored of the Prophet’s family, and his patience and steadfastness in the face of tyranny are examples that Muslims follow to this day.

State Rebellion Day: July 9

State Rebellion Day, observed annually on July 9 in São Paulo, Brazil, commemorates the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932. The movement grew out of local resentment from the fact that Getúlio Vargas forcibly assumed the nation's Presidency and ruled by decree, unbound by a Constitution, in a provisional government. Nunavut Day: July 9

On April 1, 1999, the map of Canada was redrawn: the Northwest Territories divides into two territories to allow for the creation of Nunavut, a homeland for Inuit of Canada. The creation of Nunavut is testament to the strength of Inuit political leaders and to the flexibility of Canadian political institutions. To learn more, click here. 

Asalha Bucha Day: July 10

Asalha Bucha Day, commemorates the Buddha's very first sermon, known as the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta or "Turning of the Wheel of Dharma," which was delivered to his first five disciples. Celebrated on July 10 in Thailand, the day also commemorates the founding of the Buddhist monastic order (Sangha).

Bastille Day, or Fête Nationale, is a French holiday commemorating the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, a pivotal event that marked the beginning of the French Revolution. National Disability Independence Day: July 26

Disability Independence Day celebrates the spirit and achievements of individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of self-reliance and full participation in society. The month of July has also commonly become known as National Disability Pride Month due to the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
