Systems Engineering Intern

As a systems engineering intern, the day blends hands-on instrument investigation with data-driven analysis. The intern joins daily stand-ups and triage meetings to review instrument logs, observations, and verification or long-run test outcomes. They analyze recurring failure patterns, correlate results with prior run conditions or system states, and support focused root-cause investigations with systems, hardware, software, and assay partners. The role also includes developing automated dashboards and weekly trend reports, labeling error modes for AI-based log analysis, supporting IQ/OQ/PQ test-isolation improvements, and participating in learn sessions and networking activities with fellow interns and cross-functional teams.

How You’ll Make An Impact: 

• Instrument Observation Triage & Trend Analysis: Analyze multi-instrument logs to identify recurring issues and deliver data-backed insights. 
• Automated Weekly Reporting & Dashboard Management: Develop and maintain a semi-automated weekly reporting pipeline for cross-functional visibility. 
• Error & Failure Mode Labeling for AI / Log Parsing: Classify failure modes and test outcomes to enable AI-driven log analysis and automated triage. 
• Root Cause Analysis & Performance Evaluation: Conduct and support RCA to assess how sequential run conditions impact system performance. 
• Test Robustness & IQ/OQ/PQ Refinement: Support Support test-isolation improvements and qualification process refinement to improve repeatability.

What You Bring: 

• Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited university in Chemistry , Biochemistry or Biomedical Engineering. Eligible candidates must be rising juniors, seniors, or graduate students who intend to return to their academic program the following academic year. 
• A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. 
• Technical Background: Pursuing a degree in engineering (mechanical, systems, electrical, biomedical, or related field) with strong interest in complex electromechanical automated systems. 
• Data & Analytical Skills: Experience analyzing structured and unstructured (logs, test results, metrics), with the ability to identify trends, correlations, and anomalies across large datasets. 
• Problem-Solving & Can-Do Attitude: Demonstrated ability to break down ambiguous problems, perform root cause analysis, and connect system behavior to underlying mechanical, software, or process drivers. 
• Automation & Tool Familiarity: Exposure to scripting, dashboards, or data automation tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Excel, Power BI, or similar), with interest in AI-assisted analysis or log intelligence. 
• Communication & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to clearly communicate findings through concise summaries, visuals, and presentations, and work effectively with systems, software, hardware, and assay teams.

Location: This position must be based in Hercules, California and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

Compensation: The hourly range for this position is $25 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
