The intern will work with the software team to improve the reliability of the Emerald 1.0 and 1.1 code base by helping protect it from regressions. Day to day, the intern will expand automated testing using hardware simulation and approved AI-assisted tools to increase test coverage and identify potential issues earlier. This work will support long-term sustainability efforts and help reduce the cost and effort of future sustaining work.
How You’ll Make An Impact:
- Help improve the reliability of the Emerald 1.0 and 1.1 software by identifying and preventing regressions.
- Expand automated testing by adding and improving tests using hardware simulation.
- Use approved AI-assisted tools to help analyze test results, generate test ideas, and improve test coverage.
- Increase test coverage to support future sustaining and maintenance work.
- Work with software engineers to validate changes, learn best practices, and reduce the cost of future sustaining work.
What You Bring:
- Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or related field. Eligible candidates must be rising juniors, seniors, or graduate students who intend to return to their academic program the following academic year. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
- Interest in software development, data, or automation (coursework or personal projects are fine).
- Basic experience with programming or scripting (any language is acceptable).
- Curious, eager to learn, and comfortable asking questions.
- Able to work well with others and communicate clearly with teammates.
Location: This position must be based in Hercules, California and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

Compensation: The hourly range for this position is $25 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
