Our primary goal for your internship is simple: to give you a genuine experience of what it’s like to work in industry. You’ll learn best practices, gain experience working in cross-functional R&D teams, and develop your skills along the way. You will be paired with a dedicated mentor to guide you in that process, and you’ll be a full member of the team throughout your internship. You’ll also have dedicated time for networking and career development through conversations with people across a variety of roles and teams at Bio-Rad.
You will be part of the bioinformatics team working on software for a cutting-edge R&D cell biology platform and its associated analysis software application. Interns will work closely with bioinformaticians, data scientists, and software developers to iterate on existing analysis approaches and improve software performance and maintainability.
Interns will have the choice to work on one of several project ideas, including:
- Productionization of a protein annotation library.
- Optimization of a data simulation library.
- Expansion of an existing data analysis software toolkit.
In all projects the work will involve reading, writing, testing, and improvement of Python code, as well as communication of your efforts through summarizing, documenting, and presenting on your work both within your team and to the wider company.
How You’ll Make An Impact:
- Be self-motivated learners interested in expanding their skill-set and experience in bioinformatics and data science.
- Be skilled communicators capable of working with colleagues with different expertise to achieve their goals.
- Produce, with mentorship, production quality code to be used in consumer-facing products.
- Collaborate with bench scientists, engineers, marketing, software developers, and management to build reliable cutting-edge products.
What You Bring:
- Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited university in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field. Eligible candidates must be rising juniors, seniors, or graduate students who intend to return to their academic program the following academic year.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
- Experience with one (or more) common data science language(s) (Python, R, Julia).
- Basic knowledge in Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, and Data Science AND additional expertise in ONE OR MORE of Biology Computer Science Statistics or Data Science.
- Experience with Unix/Linux command-line interface (preferred).
- Familiar with git command-line version control utility (preferred).
Location: This position must be based in Pleasanton, California and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

Compensation: The hourly range for this position is $25 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
