In the Production Supervisor I role, your typical day will find you making your biggest impact by leading, directing, and developing your team of 14-18 Manufacturing Production Assemblers at Bio-Rad’s Richmond Chemical Plant. You will lead by example by bringing your passion and enthusiasm for doing the right thing for the customer to your team who work over 2 shifts, to dispense and package chemicals and resins that are manufactured on-site. You will ensure your team works efficiently and safely while working on equipment that includes semi-automated fill lines, manual fill stations, pumps, pipettes, and semi-automated dispense systems among various others. Additionally, you will work to build strong cross-functional relationships across a matrixed organization, drive quality, and ensure everyone is working toward the achievement of our company goals… all while having a good time!

How You’ll Make An Impact: 

  • Schedules and assigns finishing team staff to complete required process orders accurately. Sets priorities, monitors, and tracks open and pending process orders. Coaches personnel in their duties. 
  • Responsible for meeting key metrics such as production schedules, quality standards, production yields, cost targets and the like. Communicates priorities, performance results and objectives to team members. 
  • Monitors employee performance and prepares/communicates performance reviews. Provides recognition and department initiatives for overall employee engagement. Interviews and selects personnel, makes salary recommendations. 
  • Troubleshoots production issues and escalates as appropriate; participates in a variety of standing meetings. 
  • Manages budget while ensuring relevant supplies/equipment/tools/spare parts are available.

What You Bring:

  • Education: High school diploma required. Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • Work Experience: 3-5 years manufacturing production experience in an instrument or chemical processing environment. Production lead experience and familiarity with assigned products is a plus. Experience in a union environment is desirable. 
  • Proven analytical, communication, computer and the ability to train and develop subordinate employees in technical skills and quality systems. Lean/Six Sigma experience is a plus. 
  • Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., GMP, ISO, OSHA). Dedicated safety leader. 
  • Working knowledge of semi-automatic and manual bottling equipment, and packaging equipment. Working knowledge of SAP and PC skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, database software, manufacturing software). 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential to communicate at all organizational levels professionally and effectively.

Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $68,540 to $92,900 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
