As part of our Diversity and Inclusion Program here at Bio-Rad, we publish a monthly Multicultural Calendar of events that are commonly celebrated in the United States. Our goal is to feature a variety of events that help bring cultural awareness to various groups' histories, traditions, and accomplishments while also highlighting events important to us both as a company and a community.
International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples: August 9
"Indigenous communities across the globe are united by many things: a commitment to cultural traditions, ancestral knowledge, a deep connection to their environment. Sadly, they’re also united by a history of exclusion from health systems." Krishna Janmashtami (Hindu): August 26
In 2024, Janmashtami (also known as Krishna Janmashtami) falls on Monday, August 26. This Hindu festival is held over two days to celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is one of the most important festivals in Hinduism and is celebrated with great fanfare across India and the world. To learn more, click here.
International Lefthander's Day: August 13
Research suggests that between 10 and 12 percent of the world's population is left-handed. Each year, International Lefthander's Day is held to celebrate left-handed people and to raise awareness of the experiences many of them face in a world designed largely for right-handed people. Women’s Equality Day: August 26
While much progress has been made, the global gender equality has never been more essential. Women's Equality Day aims to raise awareness around this issue and push for girls and women to be equal everywhere, every day. To read stories about the changemakers leading this movement, click here.
