At Bio-Rad, we advance science and save lives, together. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the R&D Engineering Team in the Life Sciences Group, helping to test and iterate on ideas related to droplet generation and sorting.
The ideal candidate will create a plan to test prototypes against user and safety requirements. You will execute the test plan and document detailed results. Based on test results, you will also make design, algorithm, and process suggestions for the next iteration of the design. Last but not least, you will give regular reports and presentations to stakeholders.
How You’ll Make An Impact:
- Lead an engineering study to evaluate the impact of mechanical torque adjustments on fluidic performance on a brand new droplet digital PCR system.
- Employ Design of Experiments (DOE) Engineering methodology to develop a test strategy that allows for root cause investigations that correlate cause-and-effect fluidic and thermal performance and system interaction.
- Analyze trends in experiment data from test assays run on 96-well plates in order to characterize engineering system and sub-system behaviors.
- Author presentations and reports that allow R&D Engineering to inform Field Service and Manufacturing engineers on results of torque study, DOE experiment, and system trends that will improve overall product performance and by reducing sub-system variabilities.
- Support engineering test software development on PCR system by performing System Verification activities in support of release candidates.
What You Bring:
- Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field. Eligible candidates must be rising juniors, seniors, or graduate students who intend to return to their academic program the following academic year.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
- Experience planning, writing, and executing laboratory test plans, with attention to detail and thorough documentation.
- Hands-on laboratory-environment aptitude with experience using basic engineering laboratory tools.
- Understanding of basic fluidic and thermodynamic principles.
- Familiarity with basic mechanical engineering terminology and specifications (like torque).
- Familiarity with basic software scripting and exposure to Matlab, Python, or similar tools for data analysis.
- Be willing to make a full-time commitment of 40 hours a week for 10 weeks from June 15 - August 21, 2026
