At Bio-Rad, we publish a monthly Multicultural Calendar of events that are commonly celebrated in the United States and in other countries in which we operate. Our goal is to feature a variety of events that help bring cultural awareness to various groups' histories, traditions, and accomplishments while also highlighting events important to us both as a company and a community.

Arab American Heritage Month: All April (US)

Celebrated in the United States since 2022, Arab American Heritage Month celebrates the history of Arab people while recognizing the impact made by Arab American changemakers in the country. To learn more, click here

Tiradentes’ Day: April 21 (Brazil)

Tiradentes’ Day is held each year on April 21 to honor Joaquim Jose da Silva Xavier, who gave his life to Brazil's revolutionary movement called the Inconfidência Mineira, which was inspired by the successful American Revolution of 1776. Working as a dentist prior to the revolution, Joaquim earned the nickname Tiradentes, meaning “tooth puller.” To learn more, click here

Vimy Ridge Day: April 9 (Canada)

The Battle of Vimy Ridge began on Easter morning 1917. Amid sleet, mud and shellfire, the soldiers of the Canadian Corps fought their way up the ridge to take the high ground overlooking the Douai plain in France during the first World War. The victory came at a high cost as 3,598 Canadians lost their lives, and 7,000 were wounded during the four-day battle. To learn more about the significance of this day, click here

El Día Del Niño - Children’s Day: April 30 (Mexico) 

The last day of April every year marks a special occasion all across Mexico. El Día del Niño, or Children’s Day, is a national celebration of children and childhood which was first observed on April 30,1925. Modern day celebrations of the day are focused on making children feel special and loved. To learn more, click here

Qingming – Ching Ming Festival: April 4 (APAC)

The Qingming – Ching Ming Festival is an ethnic Chinese festival observed in mainland China. The origins of the festival are more than 2,500 years old. Each year, Chinese families visit the tombs of their ancestors. They clean gravesites and make ritual offerings to their ancestors. Offerings include traditional dishes and the burning of joss sticks and joss paper. To learn more, click here

Saint George's Day: April 23 (EMEA)

Sant Jordi, known as Saint George in English, is a special festivity celebrated each year on April 23 in Spain and other countries. On this day, locals celebrate love and literature (sort of like Valentine's Day).
