Bio-Rad Multicultural Calendar, December 2024

December 2, 2024

As part of our Diversity and Inclusion Program here at Bio-Rad, we publish a monthly Multicultural Calendar of events that are commonly celebrated in the United States. Our goal is to feature a variety of events that help bring cultural awareness to various groups' histories, traditions, and accomplishments while also highlighting events important to us both as a company and a community.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities: December 3

International Day of Persons with Disabilities aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. Human Rights Day remembers the day in 1948 when the General Assembly of the U.N. adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is one of the most translated documents in the world and is available in over 500 languages. It has inspired countries and people alike to start treating every person with the right to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. To learn more, click here

Hanukkah: December 25-January 2

The Hanukkah story, which we commemorate each year on the 8-day festival of Hanukkah (Chanukah), is one of light over darkness. It celebrates the victory of the Maccabees, Jewish freedom fighters, who routed the Syrian-Greeks from the Holy Land and restored the Temple service. The culmination of the miracle was when a small bottle of pure oil—enough to fuel the Temple menorah for one day—burned for 8 days straight. To learn more, click here

Kwanzaa: December 26-January 1

Kwanzaa was founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga as a way to honor African culture and heritage. Inspired by African harvest traditions, Kwanzaa was created in response to the African-American community’s need for cultural pride and unity following the Civil Rights Movement. New Year's Eve: December 31

New Year's Eve is a major social holiday for many people in the United States and around the world. A particularly striking aspect of the New Year's Eve festivities is the ball drop in Times Square in Manhattan, New York City.
