Bio-Rad Multicultural Calendar, September 2024

September 9, 2024

As part of our Diversity and Inclusion Program here at Bio-Rad, we publish a monthly Multicultural Calendar of events that are commonly celebrated in the United States. Our goal is to feature a variety of events that help bring cultural awareness to various groups' histories, traditions, and accomplishments while also highlighting events important to us both as a company and a community.

Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15 - October 15

For over 50 years, Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated in the United States from Septembers 15 to October 15. The annual event honors the cultures of both Hispanic and Latino Americans, whose ancestry can be traced to 20 countries and one territory - which includes Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Spain. The celebration begins in the middle of September to coincide with independence days in several Latin American countries.

National Sickle Cell Awareness Month: All September

Sickle Cell Awareness Month was created to help educate the public about sickle cell disease, which is an inherited blood disorder in which red blood cells may become sickle-shaped and harden. Throughout the month of September, supporters advocate for better treatment, education and research while encouraging others to donate blood in support of transfusions. To learn more, click here.

National Preparedness Month: All September

September marks National Preparedness Month, the annual campaign to remind everyone that preparing for emergencies and disasters can keep them, their families and their communities safe. While the resources and information shared during National Preparedness Month and on Ready.gov can be used by anyone at any time to get prepared for whatever may come their way, this year, the campaign is focused on preparing Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. Newborn Screening Awareness Month: All September

Newborn Screening Awareness Month celebrates more than 60 years of newborn screening, the process of testing newborn babies for some serious, but treatable, conditions.
