The Chemist intern will work with the Process Development team on the Universal Calibrator Project. Collaborating with Manufacturing Scientists to develop the Universal calibrator for Global Supply Chain’s Hemoglobin A1c assays. Currently there are four different sets of calibrators for the various A1c assays. The Universal cal will replace those four sets with one set for all A1c assays. The Chemist intern will execute experiments to establish the final formulation of the calibrators as well as the cal value assignment process. The intern will build a deep understanding of the A1c calibrator value assignment process, and how the cal values  maintain traceability to governing programs such as National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program (NGSP) and International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC).

 

How You’ll Make An Impact: 

  • Build knowledge of the diabetes calibrator value assignment process while maintaining regulatory standards.
  • Driving improvements by lower labor costs and increasing efficiencies in the manufacturing process using a Universal Cal approach.
  • Increase product quality and consistency from lot to lot by reducing the number of value assignments performed each year across several A1c product lines.
  • Test for stability and demonstrate claims are met.
  • Help us deliver for our customers by setting quality and reliability standards.

What You Bring:

  • 0-3 years working in a general manufacturing environment formulating products in the areas of biological sciences, life sciences, or an equivalent.
  • Ability to follow guidelines and handle hazardous materials safely.
  • Able to follow detailed procedures and have good documentation skills. Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Must be experienced in using ERP systems- SAP a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools – Excel and Word.
  • Basic working knowledge of laboratory environments, materials, and equipment.
  • Chemistry- Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substance and the chemical processes and transformation that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger, signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Biology- Knowledge of biology, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and their environment.
  • Science- Using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Be willing to make a full-time commitment of 40 hours a week for 9 weeks from June 16 - August 15, 2025
  • Lives within commutable distance (50 miles) to Hercules, CA in order to participate in Bio-Rad's internship networking and development opportunities

Compensation: The estimated hourly range for this position is $25 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
