Food Microbiology Intern

The candidate will typically autoclave culture media, weight food samples, and manipulate foodborne bacteria and pathogens. They will also prepare DNA extracts and tests using the company’s qPCR detection kits. The candidate will also design experiments to troubleshoot issues, analyze data, and perform assays according to ISO, FDA, USDA or other methods. If time permits, the candidate may also assist with compiling previous company study reports to create an AI searchable database. 

How You’ll Make An Impact: 

The candidate will perform testing to troubleshoot issues or demonstrate kit performance to help sales teams acquire new customers. Work may also be performed by directly assisting an existing customer to solve specific issues they are experiencing in their lab, solve a problem to help keep them as a customer, or transition them to new method technologies.

What You Bring:

• Education:Current sophomore or junior in college majoring in Biology or a related field.
• 3.0 minimum GPA.
• Work Experience: none required. 
• An interest in food safety, microbiology, molecular biology, biology, or a life science career. 
• Helpful but not required: familiarity with aseptic technique, biosafety protocols, culture manipulations, creating culture media, designing experiments, use of lab equipment (such as pipettes), and performing PCR assays.

Compensation: The estimated hourly range for this position is $25 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
